A wise man is strong,
Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety. Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words. The fear of the Lord leads to life,
And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil. How much better to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. A scoffer does not love one who corrects him,
Nor will he go to the wise. The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness;
Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold; For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. My son, keep my words,
And treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your nearest kin, That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words. |
