The word 'heart' is written in the New King James Version over 900 times. It talks about God's heart for us and our own hearts. Our heart is the key to everything we do.
Matthew 5:8 says: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. And Matthew 6:21 says: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. In Mark 12:30 Jesus gives us one commandment: "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment." Notice how 'heart' is the first thing mentioned? John 7:38 says that if we believe in Jesus, according to the scriptures, out of our hearts will flow living waters. It doesn't say that we must do anything - we just believe that Jesus is who He says He is and then our hearts will flow. John 14:1 tells us quite simply: Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. So, what does your heart believe? Is Jesus the owner of your heart? Are you seeking Him in everything? Are you trusting Him with everything? Or are you working yourself to the bone TRYING to be good enough or right enough? Are you doing things for people to see or for God to see? Religion is a set of rules that controls our behaviour... Do this, don't do that. But Jesus came to give us freedom. He gives us a brand new heart, a brand new spirit, a brand new life and life for eternity. He didn't come to abolish the law, but to complete the law, for without Him, we cannot do anything completely right. So many people are afraid of change. So many people think they have to be perfect for Christ or that their good works are good enough. But Jesus works inside of us, transforming us. It's not about us doing anything except believing in our hearts and letting His Spirit work within us. We don't have to change... He does it for us. The more we love Him with all our hearts, the more we have freedom, peace, understanding, wisdom, grace, forgiveness, and indeed love. |
