sprout into ‘something’. That long and windy road was finally going to start showing me what I was put on this planet for.
Then… Fear set in. Within 24 short hours; less in fact; I was consumed with fear and anxiety. All those nagging questions – the what if’s, the doubt, the insecurity, the voice in my head shouting at times and at other time whispering “you’re no good, you can’t make a difference, you can’t fool anyone”. Ever heard those voices – or worse? Just as you’re about to take that leap and go for it? That voice says “ha ha ha” to you? Fear seems to hit us as our most vulnerable spot. No matter who we are, what we do for a living, single or not, married or widowed, rich or poor, whether we ride a bicycle or own the biggest car in the world – it makes no difference – zero difference – to fear. We get embarrassed by our fear – we see it as a weakness. No matter what kind of phobia we have, we try to hide it from the world or let only those very closest to us see it. We pray every minute of every day that our fears will never be exposed to the outside world. Our fear brings on even more fear – the fear of being found out to have fear. Fear is a real thing – it can paralyze us. We feed it constantly in trying to hide it, so it grows. It grows and keeps growing. It can take on a life of its own and soon can overtake us. Fear IS real. But fear is also the biggest deception and lie known to mankind! It doesn’t keep us ‘safe’ or ‘secure’ – it keeps us trapped. Trapped in an ever increasing, constantly growing, well that grows deeper and deeper and deeper. The light at the top that once shone so bright soon looks like light through the hole a pin prick makes in a piece of paper – it’s almost non existent. Fear is an attack. It’s a subtle thing… that little tiny voice of doubt in our brains that says “ohhhh girl… you can’t do that, people might think you’re stupid or nuts or reject you and mock you”, “what if you don’t get it right? What if you make an ass of yourself?”. Fear is any negative thought that enters your brain. Fear kills dreams. Fear doesn’t want you to succeed – whether you’re a Christian or not – fear is of the enemy – it doesn’t want you spreading your wings and flying… it wants you living within itself… in fear. When we are connected with God, fear is nothing more than the enemy trying to knock us off course. How do I know that – because God is not of fear; He is about love and encouragement and building us up. There’s a huge difference when we have THAT connection; when the Holy Spirit is guiding us. The Spirit promotes us and builds us so that we CAN glorify Him, edify Him, walk with Him, and show the world that He is REAL. To reference a quote by Robin Sharma: “To go where your dreams are, explore where your fears lie”.... We didn’t learn to walk or crawl or even eat in one day… so don’t be afraid to grow and learn as you press on towards your dreams. If you want to find your dreams, if you want to find your true purpose in life, look where your fear lies. Because fear lies. |
